Blondes are easily confused with women, and brunettes can be seen as women or (in some of their ways and actions) as being like men. As you get more used to them you see that brunettes are not really women (though they are feminine which gives them a degree of similarity) and certainly nothing like men. It might help - as an interrrim measure - to picture a character somewhat like a rather older Emma Peel as Commodore Pratchett - assured, well spoken, physically powerful, pithy and sometimes terse.
